We are often asked by customers to find long term rentals in France which are pet friendly, whether it be dogs, cats or we even snakes! It is not always easy to find rental properties in France where the Owners will accept pets, especially if you have more than one dog or cat. We have the widest selection of dog and cat-friendly properties to rent on a monthly basis in Southern France. We have put together this selection of 20 pet-friendly rentals currently available on Long term rentals in France. These houses will accept pets through prior agreement, although due to the size of the property some Owners may limit the number of animals.
A lot of our owners are happy to accept pets once they know the breed type and number of animals. Other Owners will normally accept pets on the condition that the renters pay for an end of stay deep clean of the property (which normally costs between €100-€150). Our selection includes properties with enclosed gardens and close to some beautiful walks through the vineyards.
I would say that France as a country is generally pet-friendly. You often see customers in restaurants and cafes with dogs and outside of the high season, all the beaches allow you to walk your dog (on and off the lead). Also in the centre of the small villages, you will always find a cat strolling down the narrow lanes or lying asleep on top of a wall. There is also a good connection of local Vets, with most towns having 2-3 vet practices.
Travelling with pets to France after Brexit
If you are travelling to France from the UK after 1 January 2023, you will need to be aware of the latest regulations covering travel with pets. The latest Government advice states that you will need to have your dog or microchipped prior to travel and it must have a full history of vaccinations. In addition:
- Your pet must have a blood sample taken at least 30 days after its primary rabies vaccination (from a current series of vaccinations) and the blood sample must be sent to an EU-approved blood testing laboratory.
- You will then need to wait 3 months from the date the successful blood sample before you can travel.
- You will need to visit the vet within 10 days of the date of your travel and your vet must complete an animal health certificate (AHC) and enter the date that the blood sample was taken in.
- In France, you must be able to show proof of your pet’s microchipping date, vaccination history and successful rabies antibody blood test result.
These rules are the back-stop arrangements, in the result that a more comprehensive agreement between Europe and the UK is not agreed, allowing for the current EU Pet Passport to apply. The rules listed above were last updated on 27 October 2020. See www.gov.uk for the latest updated information.
