What better place to enjoy a year out in France than in the heart of the Cevennes mountains. This mountainous region with dense Chestnut forests is one of the most beautiful areas of France. What you see today is pretty much how this corner of France has been for the last 300 years. The surrounding countryside features Mountains and streams and is the perfect place to completely unwind and enjoy the nature & wildlife. The Cevennes is located in the Southern edge of the Massif Central - a rocky plateau that extends over much of central France. This lovely 4 bedroom house is located the small village of Les Brousses. Les Brousses is part of the commune of Molière-sur-Cèze, a former silk weaving and mining village. The village is located down a winding lane in the heart of a Chestnut forest. The village is not completely cut off from civilisation (although it may feel like this at sometimes!). The large town of Alès is 18 kms away, the historic towns of Anduze and Uzès are 30 kms away and Nimes and Avignon are both 50 mins drive away. There is a TGV train station in both Nimes and Avignon, as well as local airports with low cost flights to the UK.

This 4 bedroom house for long term rental in the heart of the Cevennes in Southern France, provides the perfect base for a year out in France. Inside the house is spacious and outside you have a nice garden with covered terrace and views over the surrounding hills. The house has been well insulated and the electric radiators quickly heat up the rooms.
You enter the property into a small lobby, which provides access to the living room, kitchen and the stairs up to the first floor. There is also a guest toilet which can be accessed from the lobby. The living room is very spacious and comes furnished with a large sofa and comfortable armchair. There is a large dining table that can seat up to 8 people
Next to the living room, the large Master bedroom is very spacious and contains a Queen size double bed (180cm x 200cm), en suite shower room and a sitting room.
The kitchen is a good size and it is simply furnished with an oven and hob, fridge, microwave, coffee percolator and plenty of storage space. The kitchen comes equipped with enough cooking utensils, plates and cutlery.
On the first floor you will find 3 good size bedrooms. Bedroom 2 comes with a Queen size double bed (160cm x 200cm) and an antique wardrobe. Bedroom 3 contains a King size bed (180cm x 200cm). This bed can also be split into 2 single beds. Bedroom 4 is a twin bedroom.
The bathroom on this floor contains a full size bath, overhead shower, wash basin and toilet.
Outside: there is a good sized garden and the house looks out onto an open grass area. At the rear of the house, there is a large covered terrace with patio table and chairs. The house also has access to a large heated swimming pool located at a nearby holiday centre built around a 15th Century Monastery.
The prices quoted are based on a 12 month stay and do not include the utility bills (electricity, water and internet). The house can be rented from 3 months for up to 12 months.

Last visited: Jan 2019. This comfortable 4 bedroom house is the perfect spot if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful retreat in rural France. The local village is small and remote, but in my experience this helps to form a closer local community and you will soon pass from local curiosity to developing close friendships with your neighbours. It also helps to improve your French no end! In the surrounding area you have some beautiful villages such as Lussan, Barjac and Saint Ambroix. The local town of Alès is not really my cup of tea, but you would only really go there for your shopping. If you wanted to experience some culture, catch a local market or enjoy a leisurely lunch, you are more likely to head to Anduze or Uzès. The other thing I was amazed about was that I had a better mobile and internet connection in Les Brousses than I do in my own village.

This Cevennes long term rental house is located in the North-Western corner of the Gard department of France, bordering the Ardeche and Lozere departments. This area of France is collectively known as The Cevennes and it is classified as a French National Park. The surrounding area is largely unspoiled and provides breathtaking scenery. The region first came to international prominence through the work of the Scottish writer, Robert Louis Stephenson. In 1879 he published his book "Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes", in which he describes his journey through the region and his many stays at the local monasteries.
The local villages of Molieres-sur-Ceze has a population of around 1,500 people and is surrounded by dense forest and was a former mining village. Today the village is a popular place for holidaymakers looking to explore the local countryside on bike or on foot. The local area has some of the best cycling routes and hiling trails in France.
Popular local activities include canoeing in the local river (River Cèze) and an extensive tree-climbing centre which takes you through the canopy of the local forest. This is located just 500m from the house.
The nearest large town is Alès which is just a short drive away. Alès was historically a mining town, as well as an important centre for silk weaving. The town became an important refuge for French Protestants (Huguenots) during the 16th Century. The town contains a lot of shops, larger supermarkets, restaurants, banks, DIY stores and services for the region. I wouldn´t necessarily describe Alès as a pretty town. It is funtional rather than beautiful. But you don´t come to this area for Alès alone.
Nearby, you have some of the prettiest towns and villages in France. Uzès and Anduze are both 20 minutes away and nearby you will find the beautiful villages of Barjac, Lussan and La Rouque-sur-Cèze.

This Cevennes long term rental house is located 15 km north of Alès, 50km north-west of Nimes and 55km west of Avignon. The A9 and A75 motorways are both 1 hour drive.
The nearest airports are located at Nimes and Avignon (both 50 mins drive). Other local airports include:

There is a TGV train station in both Avignon and Nimes. There are local rail connections from Nimes to Alès and a local bus service runs in between Alès and Molieres-sur-Ceze.

One month´s security deposit to be paid at time of reservation. Rent to be paid in advance at the start of each month (for 6 month rentals) or in full for 3 month rental periods. Utility bills to be paid in addition to the monthly rent (€125 monthly provision towards the bills). References maybe required.
