This 2 bed rural house for long term rent is located close to Mirepoix, in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Southern France. The house is located in a converted barn situated on the outskirts of the village of Camon, one of the most beautiful villages in France. In the village there are 2 restaurants (one of which also doubles as a bakery and local cafe-bar). The local countryside is very picturesque - ideal for walkers and cyclists.
Inside, the house features high ceilings with exposed beams and original stone walls. The house also comes with parking, Wi-Fi and a large wood burner. Grazing land is also available for guests with horses (and stables can be found nearby).
This house is available for long term rentals from €750 per month + bills. Pets may be accepted through prior agreement.

This house in Camon, near Mirepoix in South France, is located on a quiet lane on the edge of the village. It is possible to walk into the village along the side of the river for your morning croissants. The house is laid out on one level. Heating is rovided by a large wood burner and electric radiators. There is Wi-Fi (suitable for remote working, streaming, etc.).
- You enter the house into the large open plan living room (60m2). This contains a large wood burning stove, lounge, dining area, kitchen and office. The 2 sets of French windows at the front provide access to the balcony and allow plenty of light to flood into the room.
- The kitchen comes equipped with an oven & hob, large fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster and small breakfast bar.
- The dining area has a farmhouse table with benches and an antique dresser. From the dining area a set of French windows lead out onto the balcony.
- The lounge has 2 large sofas and a coffee table.
- A corridor leads off from the lounge past a utility room with washing machine, down to the master bedroom.
- Bedroom 1 is fitted with a King-size double bed, fitted wardrobes, chest of drawers and bedside cabinets. French windows lead out onto a small balcony with views out over the neighbouring farmhouse to the river and hills beyond.
- The en-suite bathroom has a full-size bath with overhead shower, wash basin an WC.
- Bedroom 2 is currently used as a TV lounge/sitting room. It contains a large Flat screen TV (with French channels and Netflix), a large sofa (which folds out to form a double bed), a large wardrobe and an antique bar. The room can be converted back into a bedroom or used for occasional guests.
- The bathroom contains a full size bath (with overhead shower), shower cubicle, wash basin and WC. There is also a washing machine.
Outside
- There is a nice terrace area with patio table and chairs. There is also a covered terrace with outdoor lounge furniture and a BBQ.
- There is parking for several cars. The parking is shared with a neighbouring property.
- Behind the house, the Owners have a large grazing area for horses, surrounded by woodland.

Last visited: December 2023. If you are looking for total peace and quiet in a beautiful corner of France, then this house for long term rent in Camon is absolutely ideal. Camon is one of the most picturesque villages in France and the stunning small town of Mirepoix is just up the road (both places are on the official list of the 160 'Most beautiful villages in France').
This is a rural part of France, so you will need to have a car to reach the local supermarkets in Mirepoix and the small town of Chalabre. The house shares the parking with a neighbouring property.

Area activities
Camon is one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is located in Southern France in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The surrounding area is known as Cathar Country and features many historical monuments and ruins such as the nearby Chateau de Montségur, Chateau de Lagarde and Château de Puivert.
The village is located in the Ariège department, a beautiful rural area of France which is known for its mild winters (although snow usually falls for 10-15 days per year) and long warm summers. The local cuisine is famous for its charcuterie, mountain cheeses and confit de canard. The Ariège boasts a wealth of Cathar heritage, ancient caves (featuring prehistoric paintings), mountain scenery and outdoor activities like cycling, hiking and skiing. Just 50 km to the south of Camon, you will find the Ski resorts of the Pyrenees (such as Ax-les-Thermes, Plâteau de Beille and Ax 3 Domaines).
In the centre of the village you will find the L'Abbaye-Château de Camon, which was voted as one of the 'Top Five Castle Hotels in France' by Huffington Post. The Chateau is an ancient Benedictine monastery dating back to the tenth century. The Château now provides luxury accommodation and features a high-end restaurant.
The village also has a local cafe/restaurant (Restaurant Cafe Camon) which acts as the social life of the village, providing good priced meals, fresh bread and croissants and serving coffee, beer and wine.
Camon is only a ten minute drive from the medieval town of Mirepoix. This beautiful market town is one of the prettiest towns in South France and features one the best preserved arcade markets squares in France. This fortified town has grid like streets, located within the walls of the old ramparts. The weekly market is held every Monday and attracts visitors from miles around. There are some excellent restaurants surrounding the main market square. Mirepoix also has a good range of supermarkets and shops. The nearby towns of Pamiers and Carcassonne provide a bigger range of shopping and services.

- There are plenty of local walking trails and the Pyrenees offers more spectacular hiking routes.
Cycling
- This is a great area for cycling, from easy cycle paths to Tour de France climbs. A recently built cycle path built on a disused railway line allows car-free access to Mirepoix.
- The Tour de France passes through Ariège nearly every year, en route to the Pyrenees.
Horse riding
- There is a nearby equestrian centre providing horse riding and stable facilities.
Skiing
- The Pyrenees ski resorts are jusr 50km south of Camon (such as Ax-les-Thermes, Plâteau de Beille and Ax 3 Domaines) provide a range of snow sports from skiing to snowboarding and snowshoe trails
Other transport
The nearest train station is located at Pamiers which is served on the main Toulouse to Foix line. Trains run frequently and Toulouse Matabiau station is in the city centre and served on the metro line.

The nearest airports are located at Carcassonne (50 mins) and Toulouse (1 hour 20 mins).
Driving directions
Camon is located on the D7 road, in between Mirepoix and Chalabre. Carcassonne is 50 mins and Toulouse is 1 hour 20 mins

Rural house surrounded by nature
Spacious house located next to an old stone farmhouse down a peaceful country lane. Will ideally suit writers, artists or people who enjoy walking or cycling. Mirepoix is 10 mins and the Ski stations 50 mins. Beautiful local village.
One month deposit to be paid at the time of reservation (this will roll-over to become your security deposit during your stay). Rent to be paid in advance prior to your arrival (or on the first day of each month if you stay for more than 3 months). In addition to the rent there is a monthly provision of €200 towards the electricity, water and Wi-Fi. Minimum stay is 3 months.
