Maison Bourgeoise is an elegant house full of clasic period details, situated in the hilltop village of Magalas, South France. The house is available for long term rentals between October to April from €850 per month + bills. The large property comes with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large terrace and garage parking.
Magalas is located 20 mins north of Beziers and just 25 mins to the Mediterranean beaches. In the village there are restaurants, shops, a bank, schools and several vineyards selling wine. On the outskirts of the village, there is a commercial centre with supermarkets, a pharmacy, an excellent butcher, boulangerie and a popular restaurant. The village also has a train station with services to Beziers.

Nestled in the charming village of Magalas, this elegant maison de maître provides spacious and comfortable accommodation. The house provides 180m² of living accommodation spread over 3 floors. The house has oil central heating in all rooms.
Ground level:
- There is a spacious garage with parking for one car.
- There is also a walled courtyard garden, containing the swimming pool (8m x 4m), a deck area and an outbuilding.
First floor:
- In front of the house there is a large terrace with a covered seating area with patio table and chairs.
- The entrance hall provides access to the lounge and dining room and stairs lead up to the second floor.
- The bright living room is very spacious (over 32m²) and comes with an insert fireplace, 2 large sofas, bookcases and pieces of antique furniture.
- The dining room has a table with seating for 6 people and there is a beautiful brick fireplace.
- Next to the kitchen, there is a fully-equipped kitchen. There is a large fridge-freezer, gas hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave and plenty of storage. French windows lead from the kitchen out onto the terrace.
- Next to the kitchen there is a laundry room with washing machine.
Second Floor:
- The Master bedroom is very spacious and comes with a king-size double bed. The bedroom also has bedside cabinets, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. French windows lead out onto a small balcony. The bedroom leads on to the en-suite bathroom and a large dressing room. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and wash basin.
- Bedroom 2 is another spacious bedroom with a double bed and fitted wardrobes.
- Bedroom 3 is another double bedroom with a fitted wardrobe.
- The family bathroom has a full bath with overhead shower, a wash basin and WC.

The house is available for long term rentals between October to April. The minimum stay is normally 3 months. In addition to the rent, there is a monthly provision of €300 towards the electricity, heating, water and Wi-Fi. Pets may be accepted through prior agreement.

Last visited: September 2024. Maison Bourgeoise offers excellent accommodation for a family or couple with frequent guests. If you are looking for some winter sun in Southern France and a chance to experience rural French life, this property is an excellent choice. It is possible to stay in Magalas without a car, but it will probably be easier and you will be able to explore much more, if you do have one.

Area activities
The Languedoc is one of the most fascinating areas of Europe, bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Pyrenees Mountains to the south. It benefits from an exceptional climate and has an unusually rich wildlife, a spectacular coast, and surprising history. Things to see include mountains, rivers and lakes, ancient cities, and villages, cathedrals, and castles, notably the famous mountain fortresses popularly known as Cathar Castles. In recent years it has become a popular French holiday destination, with long sunny days, Mediterranean beaches, tourist facilities, thousands of miles of walks, and rides, National Parks and wildlife reserves (such as the Camargue and the Cevennes), thermal springs and spas, grottoes and caves, and vestiges of the Languedoc´s long history, Greek and Roman architecture, and everywhere reminders of the Cathars.
There are many different activities from sporting to cultural in the Languedoc region. Sports include a wide range of land sports, water sports, air sports, mountain sports, winter sports, golf, hunting, shooting, hawking, and fishing. There are also numerous cultural activities, along with French regional food specialties, and Languedoc wines. The Canal du Midi is a lovely shaded haven for walking and visiting many pretty villages, or just watching the boats go by.
Beziers is a bustling market town, with views over the River Orb from its impressive cathedral. Its ´Feria´ in August is a celebration of music, food and culture. Its splendid old market hall is a haven for those who want to sample the best of local produce, and in the nearby old town restaurants and cafes line the pavements.
Magalas is a thriving wine-growing village. There is a market in the town square every Wednesday, and live music many weekends during the summer. Magalas has three restaurants, two cafes, a small supermarket in its centre and a large one on the outskirts, plus doctors, dentist, hairdressers, pharmacy and other facilities. The wonderful medieval church, and its internationally renowned acoustics plays host to many classical concerts. The river Orb provides wonderful swimming only ten minutes away, as well as canoeing at nearby picturesque Roquebrun.
Other transport
Magalas has its own railway station, located at the end of the road. The station has a number of daily train services to Beziers train station, which has TGV connections to Paris and Barcelona.
