Le Fer à Cheval is a beautiful 2 bed cottage in Provence for long term rentals. The cottage is housed in a former stable, restored with taste and charm. The cottage is set in the heart of the medieval village of Sablet in Provence, France.
The cottage has been furnished with many vintage pieces sourced by the owners at local antique markets such as the famous Isle sur la Sorgue. The cottage comes with a lovely terrace, large living room and two generous double bedrooms.
Available for long term rentals between October to April from €1350 per month + bills.
Provence cottage long term rentals - facilities
Le Fer à Cheval ('the horseshoe') is a 2 bedroom cottage laid out over 2 floors. The cottage comes with central heating and Wi-Fi. The cottage is laid out over 3 floors with an open staircase. So it may not be suitable for children under 5, wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.
Ground floor
- The spacious kitchen contains all the utensils you may need (Bosch dishwasher and washing machine, large Smeg fridge-freezer, oven, hob and microwave), as well as a collection of classic cookery books in both French and English.
- The dining room boasts a large, rustic old oak table and benches, which can comfortably sit eight people.
- The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower, toilet and washbasin. The bedroom is furnished with a comfortable queen-sized bed. There is also a sitting corner with a vintage French velvet armchair, cosy Persian rug and a discreet built-in music system.
First floor
- The bright, sunny living room has a comfy corner sofa, bookshelves, a TV and a DVD player with lots of DVDs. The windows look out over the church gardens, with a lovely view of the clock tower.
- Bedroom 2 can be used as a twin bedroom or as a king-sized double bedroom. There is an antique writing bureau in the bedroom, with lovely views over the vineyards.
- Next to the bedroom, there is a bathroom which features a large, sleek walk-in shower with a tiled bench to sit on while you scrub, and a separate toilet.
Outside
- There is a pretty, south-facing terrace, which opens off the living room, and is planted with herbs and lavender. It has gorgeous views over the gardens to the medieval church. There is a table and chairs as well as sun-loungers, a large parasol and a Weber gas-fired barbecue.

In addition to the rent, there is a monthly provision of €300 towards the electricity, heating, water and Wi-Fi. What a beautiful place to spend a relaxing winter in Provence, France. The village of Sablet is set within stunning countryside and comes with plenty of local services. Inside the cottage is very comfortable for a couple and has the benefit of a lovely terrace. Sablet is located in the Vauclause department, close to Orange and Avignon and 1 hour from Marseille airport.

The rental is for the entire property. Any shared facilities are listed in the property description. The prices quoted are based on a 6 month rental period. Higher prices may apply to rentals over the summer period and for shorter rentals. Utility bills and communal taxes are payable in addition to the rent.

Area activities
Le Fer à Cheval located right in the heart of the village of Sablet, Provence. The village comes well-equipped with a bakery, butcher, mini-market, grocer, wine boutique, newsagent, chemist, beautician, hairdressers as well as a post office and a bank with cashpoint. An excellent fresh fish stall and a fresh goats cheese maker visit the village on Thursday mornings and there is a market on Friday mornings. Sablet also has a small health centre with doctors, dentists and physiotherapists.
In the main square, there is a traditional village bar, the perfect place to watch the world go by, or read the paper over your morning coffee and croissant. The bar also serves excellent 'Prix Fixe' lunches. There is also a relaxed family restaurant, "Au Chat Qui Miaule", with a large terrace and beautiful views.
Within a few minutes' drive, there are many other restaurants - from simple establishments serving locally produced, traditional provençal dishes, to Michelin starred places for special occasions.
Trails lead straight from the village up to the 'Dentelles de Montmirail' hills, suitable for both walkers and cyclists, and ranging from a gentle stroll to a six-hour hike.
Not to be missed is a visit to some of the local wineries, which are dotted all around Sablet and its outskirts, all of them happy to show you around and let you sample their wares.
Sablet's location provides a perfect base for exploring Provence as there are places to visit in all directions!

There is a TGV train station in Avignon (35 kms / 30 minutes) with services from London (direct service in summer), Lille, Paris, Brussels and Geneva.

- Nîmes (50 mins) - flights from Luton, Liverpool, East Midlands and Brussels.
- Marseille (1 hour) - flights from Stansted, Gatwick, Glasgow, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Edinburgh, Manchester, Dublin, Stockholm, Oslo, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart and Geneva.
- Avignon (30 mins) - flights from Southampton and Paris, with connections from Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Belfast, Manchester, Leeds and London City.
Driving directions
The village of Sablet is located in the North-West corner of the Vauclause department, close to Orange (20 kms) and just North of Avignon (30 kms). The D23 main road runs direct from Sablet to Orange, where you can pick up the A7/A9 motorway (to go North up to Lyon and Paris, South-East to Aix-en-Provence and Marseille or South-West to Nimes, Montpellier and Perpignan).
