Area activities

The village of Fanlac is located in the centre of Dordogne, in an area called the Perigord Noir, renowned for its medieval villages, prehistoric sites and lush green countryside.

The village dates back to the 13th Century, when it was comprised of just 4 houses. Today there are around 150 inhabitants. The central square in the village, features many well-preserved buildings, typical of the Perigord, built from local blond coloured stone with slate roofs. The village was featured in a French film and TV series, 'Jacquou le Croquant' (2007) about the leader of a local peasants' revolt against a corrupt local landowner, the Count de Nansac.

Fanlac is located close to major local sites, such as the Lascaux Caves (an UNESCO World Heritage Site), as well as the amazing gardens at the Château de Losse in the nearby village of Thonac.

Sarlat-la-Canéda, is the capital of the Perigord Noir and comes with cobbled streets, well-preserved medieval architecture, popular markets and many cultural events and festivals throughout the year.

The historic city of Périgueux is the capital of the Dordogne and is just 40 mins away. The town has a good range of shops, restaurants and services.

Brive-la-Gaillarde airport is 50 mins away and has services to Paris, Ireland and Strasbourg.
