Area activities

Monségur, is a pretty village, located on the border of the Gironde and Lot-et-Gironde departments, close to the Château de Duras. The village was founded in 1265 and was built as a fortified settlement (known locally as a Bastide), on top of a hill. In the centre of the village there is a large market hall, built in the 19th Century. A weekly market has been held in the village since the Middle Ages. Surrounding the market hall is a central square with lovely stone built arcades. The village has a population of around 1,600 people and comes with a good range of local services, including a couple of restaurants, a butcher, small Carrefour supermarket, pharmacy, local bar and several small shops..

Monségur is a very sociable place and holds a number of events and festivals throughout the year. There is a very popular Jazz festival held in July each year. During July and August there is weekly marché de nocturne (night market) held every Wednesday evening, featuring local artisan producers and food trucks. Vis ton Vin is a weekend wine festival held in the village every April, featuring over 50 organic and natural winemakers from across France. In December, there is a food and craft fair (Foire aux Délices et Artisanat) held in the market hall; and in May, there is the Foire aux Fleurs, local flower festival. The local cinema screens a varied program of films throughout the year, including new releases and special screenings.

The nearby Château de Duras, is a beautiful old fortress that dates back to 1137 AD.

Bordeaux is a beautiful city, with stunning 18th Century buildings, lovely squares, excellent restaurants and the longest shopping street in Europe. There is a museum, exhibitions, a restaurant and wine shop offering tasting sessions. The centre attracts over 2 million visitors per year.
