The famous indoor market in Narbonne, is reputed to be the best regional market in the South of France. The imposing Cathedral - still one of the tallest churches in Europe - was built in the late 13th Century and it towers over the town.

Narbonne was also the birthplace of the famous French singer, Charles Trenet, composer of the song "La Mer" (or "Beyond the sea" as it is known in English, as popularised by Bobby Darin). The local motorway service station near Narbonne has been named in his honour - which must be the strangest recognition any artist has ever received.

Narbonne has excellent transport connections. There is a TGV train station in the centre of town, with services to Paris, Barcelona, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Marseille, Montpellier, Beziers and Perpignan. The are 2 local motorways: the A9 which runs from Perpignan up to Paris and the A61 which connects the Mediterranean sea to the Atlantic coast. Narbonne also has easy access to 3 local airports (Beziers, Carcassonne and Perpignan) as well as being under 1 hour 30 mins from Toulouse, Montpellier and Girona airports.

Narbonne is a rugby mad town, with the local team playing in the French league 2. With the Rugby World Cup coming to France in the Autumn of 2023, this will be an excellent time to stay in France.

The Mediterranean beaches are just 10km away from Narbonne and there are two beautiful beaches at Narbonne Plage and Gruissan Plage (the neighbouring town of Gruissan is a very pretty town). Other local places worth visiting are:

• Bages - a beautiful old fishing village perched above the Etang de Bages et Sigean, a salt water lake separated from the sea by a thin headland.
• Peyriac de Mer - another former fishing village on the Etang de Bages et Sigean.
• Abbaye de Fontfroide - a beautiful Cistercian monastery founded in 1093.
• Lagrasse - a beautiful village in the Corbieres hills, built around a former Abbey founded by Charlemagne
• Minerve - a former stronghold of the Cathars, this stunning village is about 25 mins North-West of Narbonne.
• Corbieres - a mountainous area south of Narbonne, famous for its excellent wines.

So all in all, Narbonne is a good place to be based in France if your are considering renting a property on a long term basis.
