Last visited: November 2025. This house is perfectly set up for house-hunting trips or long holidays in the Charente, Dordogne and Limousine regions on holiday or while house hunting. The house is very cosy, with gas central heating and radiators in all rooms. The large enclosed garden provides plenty of space and there are a number of storage spaces. A two-minute walk takes you into the old town square with the covered market, shops, restaurants, cinema, banks, boulangerie, and more. There are lovely walks which start just a few steps from the front gate, including along the River Goire valley.
The town of Confolens lies on the Vienne river, where it joins with the smaller Goire river. It dates back to the 11th Century with remnants of a fort and church. The city walls and several houses can trace their history to the 14th and 15th Centuries. Today, the town is very pleasant to walk around, with cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and a medieval bridge (the Pont Vieux).
The town lies 70km from the large towns of Angoulême, Limoges and Poitiers and since the 18th Century it has been an important administrative centre in the local area. The surrounding area remains largely agricultural.
Confolens has all the amenities you could need including a small a hospital, a movie theatre, an indoor market, an open air swimming pool, tennis club with Padel, primary school, colllege and Lycée. There are two supermarkets in Confolens, a Lidl and Intermarche, both a short drive on the edge of the town. Saint Junien, a larger town is within half an hour's drive from the house and has a shopping mall, retail outlets, and local shops too.
Confolens is located within one of the sunniest areas of France and has proved to be a popular area for foreign buyers and around 10% of the town come from the UK, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and North America. There is even a busy Fish & Chip shop in the town.
There is a TGV train station in Angoulême (50 mins drive), with services to Paris and Bordeaux.
There is a regular bus service from Confolens to Angoulême (which also stops at the train station in Roumazières).

Confolens is a 5 hour drive from the ferry port at Saint Malo. The town lies on the crossroads between the RD 948 (which runs from Poitiers to Limoges) and the RD 951 (which goes down to Angoulême) Poitiers is 1 hour away, Angoulême is 50 mins and Limoges is 45 mins.

For rentals in excess of 3 months, the rent is to be paid on the 1st day of each month.
