La Forge is a renovated 2 bedroom cottage situated in a small village in the Charente department of South West France. The cottage is set in the grounds of a large farmhouse with 3 acres of land. The farmhouse dates back to the 1800's. Just down the road is the fabulous Château de Rochefoucauld, a 16th Century castle. The city of Angoulême is 20 mins away and has a TGV train station which enables you to reach Paris in just over 2 hours.
The cottage comes with Wi-Fi, English & French TV, a wood burning stove, good insulation and gas central heating. The cottage has a terrace, off road parking and is a short stroll to a local bar-restaurant.
Available for long term rentals from October to March from €750 per month + bills.

The cottage is laid out all on one level and provides 65m2 of living space. All rooms come with radiators linked to the gas central heating.
- You enter the cottage into the kitchen. This is well equipped with an electric oven, gas hob, coffee machine microwave, washing machine, iron/ironing board and refrigerator. A freezer is available in the outhouse next door.
- The living room comes with 2 large sofas, a wood burning stove, TV and exposed beams. There is also a large bookcase which contains a great choice of books and board games. The TV can receive both UK and French channels and Netflix.
- There is a dining table with seating for 4 people.
- The master bedroom is very generous in size and contains a large wardrobe (with hanging space and shelves) and a large sideboard. There is also a small French dressing table and stool. In the corner there is a wash basin.
- Bedroom 2 has twin beds and a chest of drawers and a built in wardrobe. Both bedrooms have high quality linen and towels.
- The bathroom has a shower cubicle, WC and a handbasin.
Outside:
- There is a private decking area with a BBQ, a table and chairs and a Parasol.
- There is parking for several cars
- Guests have use of the large garden surrounding the farmhouse.

Last visited: November 2025. The cottage is very well set-up for a house-hunting trip to the Charente or for a long holiday. The cottage benefits from excellent heating, good Wi-Fi and English/French TV. It would ideally suit a couple with occasional guests. Fresh eggs are available from the Owner's free range chickens and there is homegrown fruit & veg (when available). In the village there is a friendly bar-restaurant.

Area activities
The village of Agris is located in the centre of the Charente department, 20km north-east of the capital city, Angoulême. The village has a population of 875 people. In the village there is a post office and a bar-restaurant.
Archaeological remains have found traces of human occupation in the village dating back to Mesolithic era from 7th century BC. A gold Celtic helmet dating from the 4th century BC was unearthed in the village and is now on display at the Angoulême museum.
The nearby city of Angoulême, is the capital of the Charente department. The city has a population of 42,000 people and provides a good range of shops, services, restaurants, schools and a University. The heart of the city lies on a rocky outcrop above the surrounding town and features old fortified walls and narrow cobbled streets. The city hosts an International Comics Festival each year, attracting more than 200,000 visitors. The town is also an important centre for video game production, with over 40 studios producing more than half of the video games sold in France.
The nearby Château de Rochefoucauld is one of the most impressive Chateaux in France. The building dates back to the 14th Century, with additional parts added during the 17th Century. The centrepiece of the castle is a large staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci in the 16th century.
Other transport
There is a TGV train station in Angoulême (20 mins) which has services to Paris in just over 2 hours.
The nearby town of La Rochefoucauld (8 mins) has a train station, which is on the Angoulême to Limoges local train line.
Airports
The nearest airport is located at Limoges (50 mins), which has all year round flights to the UK. In addition, you can fly to:
- La Rochelle airport (2 hours)
- Bordeaux airport (1 hour 40 mins)
Driving directions
The village of Agris is located 20 mins North-East of Angoulême, in the Charente department. The A10/N10 motorway which comes down from Paris can be accessed in 15 mins.
The ferry ports at Saint-Malo and Cherbourg can be reached in around 5 hours drive

One month's deposit to be paid at time of reservation. Rent to be paid in advance prior to arrival for rentals of 3 months or less. For rentals in excess of 3 months, the rent is to be paid on the 1st day of each month. In addition to the rent, there is a monthly provision of €230 towards the electricity, water, Wi-Fi and local taxes.
Minimum stay is normally 3 months.
