La Forge is a delightful 3 bed house for long term rentals in Southern France, just 25 minutes from the historic town Carcassonne and 15 minutes from the market town of Limoux, famous for its sparkling wine. The house is set within a friendly village, surrounded by beautiful countryside. The situation is ideal for those seeking peace and tranquility and as a base for exploring the local area with its famous historic sites.
The house is available for long term rentals between October to May from €1,000 per month + bills. Minimum stay is usually 3 months.

The house is laid out over 2 floors and comprises 90m2 of living space.
Ground floor
- There is a large open plan living room with exposed wooden beams and tiled floor. The lounge area comes with a sofa, armchairs, fireplace and TV. The dining area has seating for 4-6 people. Stairs lead up from the living room to the first floor,
- Next to the living room there is a fully equipped kitchen with kitchen table. The kitchen features an oven with built in hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave and a variety of cooking utensils. The house has a full set of plates, cutlery and glasses.
First floor
- Bedroom 1 comes with a king-sized bed (180cm x 200cm), bedside tables and antique chairs. The bedroom has views out over the pool and the Pyrenees mountains in the distance.
- Bedroom 2 is a large room fitted with a Queen-sized bed (160cm x 200cm).
- Bedroom 3 has a Queen-sized bed (160cm x 200cm).
- The family bathroom comes with a walk-in shower, a bathtub, basin and a WC.
- There is also a separate WC on this floor
Outside:
- The lovely swimming pool (10m x 5m) comes with sun loungers and easy chairs.
- There is also a spacious terrace with a summer kitchen and barbecue. From the terrace you can see Villarzel Castle, which overlooks the village.

The house is available for long term rentals between October to May. In addition to the rent, there is a monthly provision of €200 towards the electricity, heating, water and Wi-Fi. Firewood for the wood burner to be purchased separately. Minimum stay is usually 3 months.

Country house for rent in South France - Our Opinion
The house is located in a rural setting, but you are not totally isolated because the towns of Carcassonne and Limoux are both easy to reach in 15-20 mins. The local area is perfect for walking or cycling and the village has magnificent views between the Malepère massif and the Pyrenees mountain range. The natural setting will recharge your batteries throughout your stay. Cycling in this area is particularly recommended.

Area activities
The medieval village of Villarzel-du-Razès is located in the Aude department, part of the Occitanie region of the South of France. The Aude is one of the sunniest areas in France and there are some fine sandy beaches at Narbonne-Plage, Gruissan Plage and Port La Nouvelle. The coastline around Narbonne is one of the best windsurfing spots in the world and more recently, has also developed a number of kite surfing centres.
The village is 15 minutes from the market town of Limoux, known for its sparkling wine, which has been produced in the town by Benedictine monks since 1351 (over 150 years before Dom Pérignon 'discovered' the technique for making Champagne!). Limoux provides the closest shops (supermarkets, boulangeries, boutiques, etc). The town also has a fabulous Venice-style carnival held in February.
Carcassonne is a wonderful town to visit throughout the year. During the summer, the fireworks over the castle on Bastille day are not to be missed. Also, Carcassonne Festival during July, brings together over 100 performances, including opera, dance, theatre and rock bands. Carcassonne also holds a large weekly market every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings at Place Carnot in the town centre.
The local area is also famous for numerous Cathar castles and abbeys, such as Château de Lastours, Château de Peyrepertuse, Château de Queribus and Château de Montsegur.
Other transport
Nearest train station is located in Limoux (15 mins). The station has local train services to Carcassonne. From Carcassonne train station you can access regional trains to Toulouse, Narbonne, Perpignan and Beziers.
Airports
The nearest airport is located at Carcassonne (25 km). Alternatively, you can fly to Toulouse airport (93 km) or Beziers airport (85 km).
Driving directions
The village of Villarzel-du-Razès is situated 20 kms south-west of Carcassonne, 100km to Toulouse and 100km to the Mediterranean coast.
