The Promenade des Anglais provides seven kilometres of walkway along the Baie des Anges, with sweeping views of the Mediterranean, tall palm trees, elegant hotels and beaches lining the route. The Promenade was developed in the mid 19th Century and the mansion houses and hotels attracted aristocracy from across Europe and Russia. In recent years, the city has taken great steps to reduce the traffic flow along the Promenade, by investing heavily in public transport (buses and tram routes) and developing alternative roadways.
