The Driftwood Apartment is a newly refurbished 1 bedroom duplex apartment for long term rentals, located in the centre of pretty medieval town of Bourganeuf, near the city of Limoges, in south-west France. The town was founded by the Knights Templar in the 12th Century and is situated in the Creuse department, a quiet and peaceful rural area of France, known for its lush rolling green hills, forests and lakes. The city of Limoges is 1 hour away and it has an international airport and a TGV train station with services to Paris and Bordeaux.
This duplex apartment is located on the ground and first floor of a small apartment building and comes with a main living room, a bedroom and a separate bathroom. Outside, there is a small courtyard garden with table and chairs. The apartment would ideally suit a single person or couple.
The apartment is available for long term rentals of up to 12 months from €450 per month + bills.

The access to the apartment is located on the first floor of a small apartment building. The apartment has two floors and comes with Electric heating in all rooms. The apartment overlooks a pleasant communal courtyard, ideal for relaxing outside in good weather.
First floor
You enter the apartment into the main bedroom.
- The bedroom is very spacious and comes fitted with a comfortable double bed, bedside cabinets, TV and a hanging space.
- The en-suite bathroom is set up as a wet room with shower and wash basin. There is a separate WC.
Ground floor
A circular staircase takes you down to the ground floor where you will find the open plan living room.
- The living room comes with a small table and chairs for 2 people and a large sofa.
- The kitchenette comes equipped with a gas range cooker, a fridge-freezer, microwave; kettle and washing machine. The apartment has a set of plates, cups, glasses, cutlery and cooking utensils.
Outside
- The apartment building comes with a small courtyard garden with table and chairs. The courtyard is shared with 3 other apartments.
- Free parking is available outside the flat, but there are also two large free car parks close by.

The apartment is available for long term rentals of up to 12 months. The prices quoted are based on a 6 month rental period. Higher prices may apply to shorter rental periods, especially over the summer months. In addition to the rent, there is a monthly provision of €50 towards the electricity (water & Wi-Fi is included within the rent). The gas bottle for the oven needs to be replaced by the tenant when empty. Minimum stay is normally 3 months. Pets may be considered, although as the apartment is on the first floor, it may not be the most suitable place for dogs.

If you are looking for a cheap property to rent in France for a few months, then this 1 bed apartment in Bourganeuf offers very cost-effective accommodation for your stay. The apartment is located in the centre of the lovely medieval town of Bourganeuf, a very friendly and well-equipped small town. Within a few steps you can shops for your groceries, or watch life go by in one of the cafes on the main square. Also, with a bus service direct to Limoges (where you can pick up a TGV train to Paris or flights to/from the UK), it is perfectly possible to stay at the apartment without the need of a car. The surrounding Limousin countryside around the town is very pretty, with endless possibilities for walks, cycling and horse riding.
Due to the circular staircase down to the living room, this apartment is not best suited to people with reduced mobility.

The pretty medieval town of Bourganeuf was founded by the Knights Templar in the 12th Century. The town is located in the Creuse department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The town features picturesque streets and a lovely main square, which the apartment overlooks. Today the town has a good range of shops and services, including an a Carrefour and Aldi supermarket, several bakeries, petrol station, a butcher, a couple of restaurants and a popular cafe-bar. In the heart of the town, the round medieval tower, Tour de Zimzim, was built in the 15th Century to house the exiled son of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Since this time, the tower has been used as a prison, most notably during World War II.
The Creuse department has a population of just 115,000 people, making it the second least populated area of France. The capital of the department is the town of Guéret, which has a population of just 12,955 people. The economy department is primarily supported by agriculture and tourism. The famous brown Limousin cows are reared on many of the farms in the department. The countryside features lush green hills, forests, lakes and limestone plateaux. The Creuse has been successful in developing itself as a Green tourism destination since the late 1990s. The travel website www.Routard.com voted the Creuse among the 10 most zen destinations in France - defined as "natural environments conducive to relaxation and rejuvenation".
The Creuse enjoys a temperate climate with relatively warm & sunny summers (but not as hot as other parts of South France); mild springs and autumns; and cold, but sunny winters. The department is also regarded as having some of the cheapest property in the whole of France and has over recent years attracted an increasing number of house-buyers from Holland, Germany, Belgium and the UK.
Other transport
There is a bus service from Bourganeuf to Limoges and the other main towns in the Creuse department (Aubusson, Guéret and La Souterraine).
There is a TGV train station in Limoges, with fast trains to Paris, Bordeaux and Poitiers.
Airports
The nearest airport is located in Limoges (1 hour). There are flights to Limoges from Marrakech, Manchester and London Stansted (all year round) and seasonal flights from Leeds-Bradford, East Midlands and Bristol.
Driving directions
Bourganeuf is located 1 hour east of Limoges and 2 hours west of Clermont-Ferrand. The town is 4 hours 30 mins drive from Paris and 6 hours from the ferry port a Saint Malo.
